+1901 Census show him living with the Spicuzza family on York Street in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The family name is spelt LoSchiavo not Schiavo. He always argued with this brother Mike about it.
+May be LoSchiavo families in Memphis, Tenn.
+""Papa Tom started coming over at 10-11 years of age to work with his brothers then returned to Sicily for school. Trips latter were for buying lemons and fruit for the store."" per Frances Schiavo, his daughter.
+""He owned several properties in Hamilton. His intention was to give one to each of his daughters so that they would always be taken care of."" stories I've heard by Marianne Cianciolo-Weber his grandaughter.
+He had his first heart attach when he was about 46 (1928) and had to retire. In July of 1941, his daughter Provie, accompanied by her sister, Frances, took her three children to Cleveland to visit their paternal grandfather who was old and wanted to see them. Frances remembers thinking how pale her father looked but thought it was just because he didn't like seeing his grandchildren leaving even for a short time. He had another heart attach shortly after they left and the doctor was afraid to move him to a hospital so he sent over a nurse to take care of him during the night. Papa Tom suffered another attack that night and the nurse ran from the house. Margaret, his daughter who was attending a business school (classes were from 7 to 3 each day), woke up Leo Sansone her uncle and told him her father was dead. He couldn't believe he was gone. Mama Ann and her sister Mary Farrauto were also awaken. Mary was staying with them for the night so that she would be with her sister when they took Papa Tom to the hospital the next day. Margaret then ran down the street to her cousins so they could call a priest and the doctor. No sooner did Provie get to Erie, Penn she had to return for her father's funeral. per Provie, Frances, and Margaret his daughters 5/94
Before the funeral, Margaret remembers having a dream in which her father, Papa Tom, came to her and woke her up saying, ""Get up Margaret. There are going to be a lot of people coming and you have to get things ready. Did you know you only have one bar of soap in the cupboard. You are going to have to take care of things from now on."" The next day, she checked the cupboard and sure enough there was only one bar of soap. per Margaret Schiavo 5/94
He saw Mama Ann for the first time doing needle work on her balcony in Sicily and fell in love with her at first sight. He asked his mother to check and see if she was spoken for. When he found out she wasn't he asked her grandfather (Dominic Cianciolo) if he could court her. He was told that she was only 16 and he would have to wait until she was 18. When he returned to Canada he took classes in English so that he would be able to write her in English. Mama Ann knew both Italian and English since she had spent several years in the states as a child. per Margaret Schiavo his daughter 5/94
Papa Tom was the best man for Dominic Cianciolo and Mary Cianciolo when they got married in Waterbery, Conn.(1920 or 21). Mama Ann was raised by Mary's mother in Sicily and she asked that they represent her at her daughter's wedding. They brought their daughter, Margaret with them because she always got sick when they were gone. per Margaret Schiavo 5/94
